Over 100 years of history…
Originally formed in 1917, Newman House serves as Roman Catholic chaplaincy at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. The chaplaincy provides a safe community where students can share, explore, and discover the fullness of their Catholic faith.
The physical house itself serves a dual function. The main floor of the house is for socializing, study, and a common space for fellowship . The second floor is home to our beautiful chapel, where you can pray between classes, join in on our many devotions, or attend weekday Mass.
Newman House is named after St. John Henry Newman, the patron Saint of university students. St. Newman was a distinguished Anglican minister who left the English church to join Catholicism and later became a cardinal. Many university campuses throughout Canada and the world have chaplaincies named after St. Newman. His feast day is October 9th.
